It's been five years, five years since Covid but also, five years since becoming a Not on the Highstreet partner, and five years since a very busy Mother's Day and our botanical design! I just wanted to look back at where this design started and how it became one of our best selling designs.

Painting Botanical design on to white recycled leather.

Re-wind back to 2020, I was working in my garden studio, building up this little business and also working as a freelance designer. I had been on Etsy for almost 2 years, had handful of lovely stockists and had just opened my NOTHs shop then just like that the country shut down.

As we couldn't go out and shop in real life, or spend time with our loved ones, online sales for Mother's Day went a little mad and my botanical glasses case was featured on the front page of the Not on the Highstreet website! It was total madness, I worked all hours and painted, sewed, personalised, packed and took bags and bags of botanical glasses cases to the post office to send all over the country. It was amazing!

Above is the little feature on the homepage of the Not on the Highstreet website, my first ever front page feature!

The Story behind the glasses case
So where did the botanical design come from? In November 2018 it was my friend's birthday, she absolutely loves plants and so I decided to paint her a little clutch purse. I thought a beautiful green leafy design would be perfect for her, the first few pieces featured a delicate leafy botanical design, painted in a dark green with gold details as pictured above.

Over the years the design has become a favourite gift for Mother's Day, a practical yet beautiful gift idea for Mum or Gran who needs somewhere pretty to store their reading glasses.

Each piece is hand painted and completely unique, the paint is mixed to the perfect colour by eye making them a unique piece of art.

In 2021 I had to find a new supplier for my white recycled leather and came across one that was made right here in England. I launched a range of new pretty colours including a peachy pink, mint green and periwinkle blue, I also added a white design painted onto lilac and a soft blue.

I absolutely love painting and drawing botanical shapes found in nature. It's become a key part of the brand over the years and has been added to earrings, key rings, our tissue paper and even Christmas Baubles.
